The consistency of a rising sun inspired this piece. Whether reflecting off the buildings of an urban jungle or shining through the leaves of a natural canopy, its rays cast a feeling just the same. There is something inherently happy about that. A new day.

Brushes laid the base-work, while pallet knives built the bricks. Sheets of gold leaf define the sunlight’s circle and gold-leaf dust traces the warmth of its movement across the canvas wall.

The gold in this piece catches natural light, reflecting part of present day back to its viewer. During the creative process I thought about how the sun remains fixed in its position, yet daylight is forever changing. When I look at this painting now, I feel the certainty of another day, and at the same time, the mystery of what tomorrow brings. For me, there is a subtle excitement, a palatable happiness and sense of optimism in this painting.

Original artwork is on gallery-wrapped cotton canvas. Acrylic paint, additives and metal leaf are protected with a varnish coating. Artist’s signature is bottom right.
