The silence of the moon against a night sky inspired this piece. Throughout its phases, the moon emits a mood of intrigue, mystery and romance. Capable of captivating our imagination and wanderlust, the moon is witness to some of our most memorable moments.

Brushes laid the base-work, while pallet knives built the bricks. Sheets of silver leaf form the moon’s shape and silver leaf dust creates its mysterious glow.

The silver in this piece cools its backdrop of yellow and white. The creative process hinged around the moon’s apparent contradictions - how it is distant yet familiar, light-less yet glowing, and how consistently its phases change. When I look at this painting, I am drawn into a moody atmosphere that feels secure but not entirely calm. For me, there is a subtle romance, a sense of the unknown, and perhaps even a dare within this painting.
