Motion
Heavily influenced by music, this painting looks the way I wish to dance.
As a girl I competed in highland dance, enjoying its structure (and bagpipes). There are as many expressions of dance as there are dancers performing them. This is my representation of the joy dance brings to both the viewer and participant.
The final composition is an ode to the fluidity of movement and respectiful connection to beat. Unfussy brush work composes the background, while a combination of pouring and painting (from the shoulder) creates the focus. An intentionally subdued color pallet with an unrestrained central shape communicates the raw (not the taught or showy) connection people experience when they move naturally to music.
Motion is not a complicated piece. It does not express a complicated matter. The creative process was simple and free-flowing, never a moment of uncertainty or fixing. As an artist I welcomed that. This painting was and is liberating.
